Catellani & Smith for the Casa dei Gatti

La Casa dei Gatti is located in the pretty tourist resort of Seccheto, a few steps from the most beautiful beaches of grainy sand and crystal clear water, on the west coast of the splendid Elba Island. Abandoned for several years, the house was the refuge of a small group of stray cats, to whom the photographer and interior designer Adriano Bacchella wanted to dedicate the name of the residence following the renovation. La Casa dei Gatti is distinguished by the use of natural materials originating in the area, such as Elban granite, used for the entire house, which gives an intimate and rustic atmosphere, becoming an exemplary expression of a typically Mediterranean style. The rock is joined by wood, in its almost primitive aspect, which gives shape to many of the furnishings and structural components of the architecture; the concrete finishing of the floors, the handcrafted ceramics, the furnishings chosen with care and dedication. All these elements are connected to each other thanks to the skilful lighting of Catellani & Smith, with highly decorative models positioned both in the characteristic house and in the beautiful outdoor terrace.

Starting from the inside, the space opens into a small open space: the living room, cozy and welcoming, thanks to the important height of its ceilings, houses a mezzanine reserved for the sleeping area. In the living room, the special PostKrisi Chandelier stands out from the ceiling, with exposed white beams, made up of jagged and irregular spheres in natural fiberglass in diameters of 20 and 14 cm. The 62 cm Light Stick CW wall lamp with 4 LEDs, in satin gold finish, fits into the cozy relaxation area. The same model, but in the nickel version and in the 88 cm and 115 cm sizes, was used to illuminate the kitchen. Two small Sweet Light T support spheres in the brass version rest on a characteristic raw wood coffee table, while on the sideboard decorated with a beautiful ceramic service, there is the CicloItalia T model with its peculiar light and natural brass finish. CicloItalia T has also been inserted in the master bedroom – where Sweet Light T is still found, whose brightness can be adjusted with the simple touch of the hand thanks to a touch-dimmer – and in the sleeping area set up on the mezzanine.

Finally, the living area is completed by the Colonna luminous sculpture with a waxed raw iron structure in which a slit covered in gold-colored leaf opens. The lighting by Catellani & Smith is also found in the bathroom with the two EC 301 light points, in white with brass details, installed on the wall to illuminate the top consisting of two different washbasins. Finally, the outdoor area features two Fil de Fer that decorate the terrace, perfectly matching the seats and outdoor furniture. The tiny LEDs, which stud the intertwined skein of aluminum wire, create a magical atmosphere, especially at nightfall, when the sky is dressed in a deep blue. Finally, among the greenery dotting the house, the More luminous creations are born like flowers, in transparent or amber glass and galvanized metal stem.
