Catellani & Smith’s Sfera in the ADI Design Index 2023 selection

Inspired by the famous self-portrait of Maurits Cornelis Escher, Catellani & Smith‘s Sfera has earned a spot in the ADI Design Index 2023, the annual publication promoted by the Permanent Observatory of Design – an authoritative institution of ADI (Industrial Design Association). This index compiles the most significant Italian design products, marking the initial step towards the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award.

Sfera is a wall lamp that plays with the mirror-like surface effect, capturing the image of those who observe it and the surrounding environment. Designed as a sphere tangentially attached to the wall, Sfera lacks visible mechanical fixtures, allowing for the orientation of the light beam to be determined during installation. Despite the hidden light source, an asymmetric lens recovers most of the light emitted by the LED, ensuring the perfect elegance and clarity of the lamp’s spherical form.
Sfera can be used individually or in multiple compositions to create diverse lighting effects and enhance the surprising play of reflected images.

You can view Sfera in Milan from November 6th to 19th, 2023, at the ADI Design Museum, located at Piazza Compasso d’Oro 1. Additionally, it will be on display in Rome at Spazio WeGil from November 27th to December 2nd, 2023.
